Keanu Reeves returns as Neo in Lana Wachowski’s The Matrix 4

What we know
The Matrix 4 was initially set to be released in December 2021. Restrictions caused by the pandemic have however seen it delayed until potentially April 2022.
Keanu Reeves said in a recent interview that his decision to return to the iconic franchise was inspired by writer, Lana Wachowski’s plot. Reeves also suggested that The Matrix 4 will be a “love story”. Apart from this statement we don’t know much about the film’s plot, due to the cast and writer’s reluctance to share too much information with us to date.
Fans of The Matrix are buzzing with questions since we’ve seen both Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) die in The Matrix Revolutions. Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) was reportedly (not invited) to reclaim his role in the upcoming film. Some people believe a younger Morpheus could be portrayed in the next film, which creates a possibility of The Matrix 4 being a prequel to the first three movies.
Filming took place in San Francisco and was then moved to Berlin, Germany prior to shooting being postponed by the pandemic. We’re still awaiting a trailer and might have to wait a few months before the first footage will be released to the public.
The cast
Keanu Reeves will return as Neo, Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity, Jada Pinkett Smith could return as Niobe as well as Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian. Monica Bellucci could return as The Merovingian’s wife.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Neil Patrick Harris, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Stephen Graham, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Ellen Hollman, Andrew Caldwell, Brain J smith, Toby Onwumere, Erendira Ibarra have all joined the cast.
The infamous agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) will apparently not be returning.
Our Verdict
The next Matrix could be entirely different than the original trilogy and as fans of the series, we are excited to see the film and the actors involved returning for their roles.
Despite the lack of information, we are placing this one on our must-watch list and you should too!
